Peg’s Flower Cottage • Peggy Reynolds
💐CHECK BACK TOMORROW AT 10:30am to find out why Peggy gave us a dozen carnations...
She has been in business for 27.5 years!

Peggy has always loved flowers. She remembers being a little girl, sitting in her yard picking dandelions and being fascinated by all of the little petals it takes to make up the flower.

She is a 1975 graduate of JCHS. In high school, she business always intrigued her and she took many classes on the subject. In college, she was an art major and while she didn't finish her degree she did begin working at Famous Barr when it first opened; she learned how to set up displays. She had a job at Western Auto that helped her to learn bookkeeping. She also worked at a hospital and managed the gift shop and volunteers.
She said all of these jobs were a stepping stone to get her to where she is now.

She tried to get a job at a florist to learn how to do floral design, but the shop told her she was too young and didn't have experience. She was a little discouraged, but people in he life kept encouraging her that she could open her own business.

She eventually went to St. Louis to take classes to learn about floral design. On October 1, 1996, she opened her business. The rest is history. Her mother helped her often at the beginning. She now has five employees and many have been there for many years - she is very grateful for their dedication.

She gave the students many words of wisdom including: be true to your customer and your product, always stay honest, learning is a privilege, and that you have to be willing to give your whole self to your business.
She said her heart and her customers are the reason she keeps going - and a lot of prayer.

Her business has been a staple in Jersey County for many years and we are blessed to have a more affordable floral option compared to prices in a bigger city.

Peggy, thank you so much for speaking to us and for the carnations - check back for our post tomorrow at 10:30am to find out what we did with the flowers.
