Fritz Meat and Processing • Adam Fritz
"I'm always open to try and learn new things - staying open to anything."

Adam grew up on a farm 6 miles East of Jerseyville and enjoyed tending to the family's livestock. Going to school to become a veterinarian was a lifelong goal of his, until his senior year of college he decided that it wasn't what he wanted to do and switched gears to animal nutrition. He has a bachelors in integrative biology and a masters in animal science.

After college he was hired by Pike Feeds out of Pittsfield, IL as a Nutritional Consultant and started raising hogs on the side.
During the pandemic, he was working on plans to open a custom meat processing business and this past year was approached about purchasing Hansen Packing Company.

The decision to change the name was about re-branding and keeping the tradition of this being a family-owned and operated business. The history of the building itself dates back to 1962.

He and partner Ted Prehn hit the ground running. They purchased the business on 10/12 and began accepting deer on 10/14. Last deer season they had 770 DEER brought in! Quite an accomplishment in their first few months of business.

What sets their business apart is that you can find locally raised meat here.

We learned about meat processing, health dept requirements & state inspection, expense of equipment and machines needed for their operation, the importance of keeping a schedule, and so much more!

It is abundantly clear that Adam is a driven individual that is determined to make this the best local meat packaging and custom processing plant around!

Thank you for speaking with us and giving us a tour of the building and the free snack stick samples!
