What is the most important quality of being an entrepreneur?
“Stay Relentless.” - Jake Oros
He told the students that you can’t quit when things start getting tough. He also talked about getting used to being stressed and managing it with good habits/daily routines. Drugs/alcohol/bad habits will take away from your success.
“Always auditioning.” - Adam Hickson
For his business, culture is key. He always stressed the importance of being aware who your surround yourself with and that it matters especially as a business owner.
“Stay focused on your goals.” - Tracy Clarkson
She mentioned that drive/ambition are the qualities that keep an entrepreneur going.
“Be passionate about what you’re doing.” - Brad Stockstill
An older gentleman that he used to work with told him that you need to be knowledgeable in what you’re doing and what opportunity knocks - you need to act on it. You can’t always play it safe if you want to be an entrepreneur.
“No matter what you do, sales is important.” - Wylie Heafner
He said that he could have the best employees, but if he couldn’t sell himself or what his business offers then the rest doesn’t matter.
What do you look for when hiring an employee?
“I look at their boots.” - Wylie
He likes to see a pair of boots that look like they’ve been working hard. He said that employees are a reflection of you/your business.
“Good Handshake.” - Jake
He said job hoppers are a red flag and that you can tell a lot by someone’s handshake.
“I have them train me to ensure I’m comfortable with them training at my gym.” - Adam
He said beyond training ability, he goes by personality and if they are a good fit for the culture.
“Someone that has a good personality.” - Brad
He said it’s a major plus when you find someone to hire that cares about the business almost as much as you, the owner, does.
"Your employees are your brand." - Tracy
It's important for her business to hire someone that is knowledgeable and that people can trust.
There was so much wisdom shared that anyone would have felt lucky to be sitting in that room.
