Chris & Brenda Lorton - Real Estate Talk at George's
These two are the smiling faces you see everytime you step foot in George’s.
Chris and Brenda met in March of 1987, engaged 6 weeks later, and were married by November of 1987. Chris said he just knew. They have been married for 36 years.
“Do what you say you’re going to do.” - Brenda
“The best way to find income as an entrepreneur is to do the things no one else is willing to do.” - Chris
Chris started working in construction with his dad when he was just 10 years old. He said it has been a major asset to have the construction knowledge as someone who invests in real estate.
Their first major business purchase was an old hotel. It had 26 rooms and using his construction skills, Chris was able to renovate it back to its original beauty.
Soon after, Chris decided to start his construction business. He did the renovating jobs that most people didn’t want to do. They eventually bought a manlift to be able to do high work, including renovating church towers and steeples. They ran the construction business for 25 years.
They gave invaluable advice for real estate investing and being entrepreneurs. Things like: you need a good banker, watch out for property taxes, location is everything, how to put yourself in the best situation when purchasing, and more!
Fun Fact: Did you know apprentice masons (bricklayer) used to be hired for the inside walls of a building and an experienced mason laid the bricks on the outside. Next time you’re in George’s take a closer look at the brick and you will see all of the character along the wall. They were thrilled to find the brick walls behind the plaster walls while they were renovating.
One of the most exciting parts of the day was getting the opportunity to visit a building they recently purchased. The students enjoyed sharing ideas of business idea for the building.
If you’ve been, then you know that these two have something special with George’s. From the moment you walk in they make you feel like you are part of the family.
Thank you so much for taking the time to speak with us today, spending some extra time with a student that is interested in being a real estate investor, and the donuts & coffee!
