Let's talk REAL ESTATE

Mindy Woelfel came and spoke to us today and we left with a much better understanding of what it takes to be a successful Realtor.

She lost her father when she was 15 years old and decided in that moment that she would always be able to financially support herself. She held three jobs while in high school - washing dishes at Fran & Marilyn's, Dairy Queen, and RevCo.

Mindy attended SIUE for a Bachelors in Business Administration. She worked 30 hours a week in the academic advising office while going to school full-time.
She always felt called to teach and eventually the opportunity presented itself for her to be able to teach and coach basketball. She went back to school to earn her Masters while teaching. Mindy taught a business class that was a highlight of many students high school careers. Students left her class feeling more prepared for life after high school.

In 2002, she obtained her real estate license. She said the most rewarding part of her job is when people have closed and being able to share their excitement for move-in day. The worst aspect are the dangers involved with showing homes to strangers. She uses background checking apps and other precautions to ensure she is being as safe as possible when showing a home.

She recommended that anyone in real estate always have a second income; it takes about 10 years for a realtor to reach an income-sustaining success. Having two full-time jobs isn't for everyone; she wakes each day around 4:30AM.
Real estate is highly competitive, but Mindy prides herself on always having her client's best interest in mind.
Among other topics, she explained how prices are set and using comps, the amount of paperwork to purchase a home and to even list a home, inspections, importance of knowing your realtor and trusting them, and supply/demand in realty.

We have a much better understanding of how real estate works after today.
Thank you, Mindy!
